Amazing Moroccan adventure

MOROCCO:

Colour, sights and smells to rival any!

Morocco, from landing to departure, greets travellers with an eruption of crazy colour combinations to appeal to every taste, tantalises the sense of smell at every angle with spices and experiences that make people feel they have instantly been dropped into a National Geographic documentary.

The markets are an irresistible stop where treasures can be fiercely bargained for from Berber traders. Beautiful multi-coloured lamps, dishes, scarves, slippers and throws are the most popular items purchased here to take home as reminders of an amazing Moroccan adventure.

Agadair:

One of the lesser known Moroccan destinations is Agadair, on the coast. With an international airport receiving flights from Europe, it is accessible and worthy of a few days at the beginning of a Moroccan holiday. The harbour with its blue fishing boats arriving each morning laden with fresh fish is a 'must see', as is the harbour wall with a large number of cannons placed there to protect the coastline.

Shara Desert:

With Morocco being flanked by the Sahara Desert, a trip into this vast sandy wilderness will give insight into the Berber people and their way of life. An overnight stay in one of their tents is a 'once in a lifetime' experience which I enjoyed immensely.   Sahara's cold night temperatures are a surprise, but are well handled by your Berber hosts with warm bedding and hot drinks before tucking in for the night. Being on a camel traversing huge sand dunes without prints of man or beast is entrancing, then seeing the sunset or sunrise is the icing on the cake of a trip into the Sahara Desert.

Medinas and riads:

Accommodation in Morocco is best experienced in a riad, a traditional Moroccan home built over several stories and usually around a central courtyard with a fountain. There are an abundance in Marrakech and Casablanca within the maze of small alleyways in the medina or old city. To find your riad would be virtually impossible alone, but at every entrance there are boys with carts for your luggage and an intimate knowledge of the medina plus an outstretched hand for a small fee for delivering you safely to your riad.

Following sensible guidelines of not going into the wilderness of Morocco, staying in lit and populated areas provides security.   There should be no fear about travelling in this unique country. This is definitely a place to experience, totally different to any other place, with a 'wow' moment around every corner.

Morocco will provide you with photos, mementos and memories rich and vibrat for many years after you have been there.
