Ski New Zealand

The ski season in New Zealand generally runs from June to October. Expect the best conditions to be in the months of July to August with warmer spring conditions from about mid September

Ski Fields

There are several ski fields in New Zealand, the majority being located in the Southern Alps of the South island. The South Island contains the Southern Alps, a chain of peaks in excess of 2000 metres, which run nearly the entire length of the Island. It is here that you will find the most consistent Ski/Snowboarding conditions. The main skifields in the South Island are Coronet Peak and The Remarkables located close to Queenstown, Treble Cone and Cardrona located close to Wanaka and Mt Hutt located 1.5hrs drive from Christchurch.

South island also has numerous club fields dotted along the Southern Alps. These fields are mainly ski club operated and these organisations operate accommodation and the ski areas welcome casual visitors to their slopes. Popular club fields are Craigieburn, Mt Cheeseman, Mt Olympus, Mt Dobson, Mt Potts, Broken River, Ohau and Round Hill.

The two main fields in the North island are Whakapapa and Turoa located on the slopes of Mt Ruapehu.
