ITINERARY
 
Day 1 - Monday
Muscat Arrival



 

Arrival at Muscat International Airport. After proceeding through immigration and collecting your luggage you will be met by your driver in the arrivals hall. Transfer to the hotel and check-in. Overnight at a Muscat 4* city hotel. (Check in from 2 pm)
   
Day 2 - Tuesday
Muscat City Tour including boat trip



 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

At 09:30 hrs depart for the city tour which begins with a visit to the magnificent Grand Mosque, built with sandstone and marble. A beautiful Swarowski chandelier and a huge handmade Persian carpet adorn the main prayer hall. Then continue to the Muttrah Souk, a traditional oriental market. Enjoy the lively atmosphere and the scent of frankincense and spices. We will have a light snack (included in price) at one of the restaurants near the souk and then visit Bait Al Zubair museum. This privately owned museum, located in the old town of Muscat, is known for its fine collection of traditional costumes, antique jewellery and weapons. Afterwards we will have a photo stop at Al Alam Palace, the palace of the Sultan followed by a 2 hour boat ride along the Muscat coast. On the way back to the hotel photo stop at the Royal Opera House and drive through the ministries and embassies area. Overnight in Muscat. (B,D)
NB: Dress code for the mosque visit: Women must cover arms and legs and wear a headscarf. Men must wear long trousers. Children under 10 years are not allowed to enter the prayer hall.
   
Day 3 - Wednesday
Muscat - Birkat al Mauz - Bahla - Al Hamra - Jebel Shams - Nizwa











After breakfast we will leave Muscat and depart towards the interior of Oman. First stop is the village of Birkat Al Mauz with its many gardens. Continue to Bahla for a photo stop and proceed to the small town of Al Hamra, where many of the traditional mud houses are still intact.  From there we go up to the village of Misfat which literally clings to the side of the mountain. Take a walk through the village and see the traditional irrigation channels (Falaj). We will then switch to 4x4 vehicles and go further up to Jebel Shams, the 'mountain of the sun". Enjoy the spectacular view from the 'Grand Canyon'. (Lunch during the tour in a local restaurant).  Proceed to Nizwa for overnight stay.   (B,D)           
   
Day 4 - Thursday
Nizwa - Jabrin - Al Mudayrib - Wahiba
  After breakfast visit Nizwa, former capital of Oman. Visit the Nizwa Souq, in the vicinity of the walls of the famous Nizwa fort.  Through its many alleys and divisions, Nizwa Souq has remained for hundreds of years home to a number of local industries, such as daggers, copper, spinning, livestock sales, fish, vegetables and handicrafts.  Later visit Jabrin Castle, a beautiful Castle with winding hallways, hidden staircases and a beautifully decorated interior.  Then continue on towards the desert, visiting the 18th century village of 'Al Mudayrib' en route.  This village is still inhabited to this day and has managed to keep its atmosphere and character.  Finish the day with your arrival in Wahiba Sands.  4x4 vehicles will take you to the camp.  Dinner & overnight in the Desert.  (B,D)
   
Day 5 - Friday
Wahiba - Wadi Bani Khaled - Ras Al Hadd
  After breakfast you will have some free time to enjoy the desert atmosphere. Then the 4x4 vehicles will take you back to the bus. We will then visit Wadi Bani Khaled, which stands in strong contrast to the desert with its natural pools and greenery. Optional lunch in a local restaurant (not included in price). After lunch we will continue to the coastal town of Ras Al Hadd where you can watch the turtles* later in the evening. Dinner in the hotel (included in price). Overnight at Ras Al Hadd / Ras Al Jinz.    (B,D)
   
Day 6 - Saturday
Ras Al Hadd - Sur - Wadi Tiwi - Muscat - Dubai
  After breakfast we will drive to Sur for a short city tour and a visit to the dhow building yards. After that start the journey back to Muscat along the cost.  Stop at the beautiful Wadi Tiwi and have lunch at the Wadi Shab Resort.  In Muscat transfer to the airport.  After immigration and collecting your luggage you will be met by your driver and taken to your hotel. Day 7 - Sunday
Dubai sightseeing & dinner dhow cruise




 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

After breakfast spend the day exploring this unique and spectacular city. Within less than 30 years this city was transformed from a small fishing village by the Dubai creek to one of the most important cities in the Gulf region. We begin with several photo stops in the modern city: Jumeirah-Mosque, built in medieval Fatimid style, the Burj Al Arab Hotel in the form of a giant sail. Along Jumeirah road we continue to the artificial island "The Palm" and make a photo stop at the Atlantis Hotel. From Palm Monorail you will have a beautiful view of the island, the coast and the skyline of Dubai. Then explore the old area, or "Bastakya" with its traditional houses and wind towers which in the past served as a natural air conditioning. Afterwards visit the Dubai Museum which is located in the historical Al Fahidi fort. We will then cross the Dubai creek to Deira with the traditional water taxi (Abra) and visit the Gold and Spice market. We continue with a visit to Burj Khalifa, with its 828 meters the tallest building in the world. The tour starts on the ground floor of the Dubai Mall and a multimedia show will keep you entertained all the way to the 124. Floor. Afterwards admire the aquarium in the Dubai Mall and enjoy a show of the Dubai Fountain. From the mall we will take you directly to the Dubai Marina for a romantic dinner-dhow cruise (duration 2 hour, dinner buffet incl. non alcoholic beverages). Then return to the hotel and overnight.   (B,D)

 
Day 8 - Monday
Desert Safari with BBQ Dinner
  In the morning optional excursion to Sharjah: city tour via Koran square, visit to the Museum of Islamic Art, visit to souk Al Arsah, photo stops at the central souk, the lagoon and the mosque. Return to Dubai. (must be booked in advance)
Early afternoon we will take you on a desert safari to the golden dunes. Drive up to one of the highest sand dunes to enjoy the sunset. Later a barbecue with oriental dancers, tea and shisha (water pipe) in a Bedouin camp. Return to the hotel and overnight.
Please note: the safari will take place without tour guide. This excursion is not on private basis and you will share the vehicle with guests from other hotels.

Day 9 - Tuesday
Dubai - Abu Dhabi - Dubai



 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Breakfast and departure to Abu Dhabi (capital city of the emirate of Abu Dhabi and of the United Arab Emirates), to explore one of the most modern cities in the Gulf. Visit the famous Sheikh-Zayed-Mosque, the largest mosque of the UAE, Al Husn Palace and the Heritage Village. Continue along Corniche Road, passing by Emirates Palace Hotel, one of the worlds most luxurious hotels. Then go on a short tour to explore culture and art of the town and Saadyat Island. This is where four famous architects (Frank Gehrz, Jean Nouvel, Tadao Ando und Zaha Hadid) present their designs for the construction of museums (Louvre and Guggenheim). There is also a center for performing arts, all of which makes Saadyat island an important cultural destination. After visiting the exhibition centre and Al Manarat we will take you on a short tour to Yas Island, home of the Formula 1 race track. Return to Dubai and overnight.  (B)

Day 10 - Wednesday
Dubai - Al Ain - Dubai



 

 

 

 

Breakfast and departure to Al Ain. located at the Omani border, Al Ain is the second largest city in the emirate of Abu Dhabi (UNESCO world heritage site since June 2011). With more then 10000 hectares of parks and greenery, Al Ain is called 'garden' of the UAE. Dairy and other farms are located here and it is also home of the emirates largest zoo. Enjoy the lively atmosphere of the camel market and then visit the old Al Jahili fort. The museum there will give you some insight of the regions past and the local traditions. Afterwards take a walk between the palm trees of the oasis and then visit the former palace of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder and first ruler of the UAE. Return to Dubai.  (B)

Dubai departure

After breakfast transfer to the airport.  (B)

NOTE on Turtles in Ras al Jinz

 

 

Tour with local rangers in English. 2 tours per day (9 pm or 4 am - duration 2 hours).  The best season to view turtles is from May - Sep.  The tour can be cancelled on short notice if there are  no turtles in the nature reserve without a refund. Important to keep silent and not to use flashlights.  Photos are not permitted in order to not disturb the turtles.
