Jewish Heritage, Eilat & the Negev
  Experience The Negev - which extends over Israel's southern region and accounts for over half of it's land area. Although sparsely populated, the Negev has seen its share of history. Abraham built his home in Be'er Sheva, the Nabateans passed through here on caravans of camels laden with precious trade goods. In complete contrast is the Red Sea resort of Eilat is known for its beautiful beaches and diving.

Saturday Arrival
    Upon arrival to airport meet our representative and transfer to Tel Aviv.
Overnight: Tel Aviv.
   
Sunday        Coastal Plain
 

Leave Tel Aviv for a tour along the great Coastal Plain of the shimmering Mediterranean Sea. Stop to explore the ancient port city of Caesarea. See the aqueducts and the restored amphitheatre now used as a concert venue. Continue onto Haifa for a panoramic view of the city from Mt. Carmel. Stroll through the colourful local markets at Acre and visit the old harbour. See the magnificent limestone grottos via cable-car at Rosh Hanikra.Overnight: Kibbutz guesthouse. (B, D)

   
Monday    Upper Galilee
 

Visit the fascinating Old City at Safed (Zfat) and stroll through the artist's quarter. Enjoy a Jeep tour of the Golan Heights. Peer deep into Syria and see the remains of the ghost town of Kuneitra.  Stop at the former Syrian Army camp at Tel Facher. Explore the source of the Jordan River at the Banias Springs. Evening activity:  Meet with a Kibbutz member and learn about their unique lifestyle.  Overnight: Kibbutz guesthouse. (B, D)

   
Tuesday Lower Galilee
 

Enjoy a short tour of Tiberias. See the excavations of the ancient Roman city of Beith Shean. Stop at Beit Alpha to see the ancient Synagogue of the Zodiac. Swim the warm waters at the natural springs of Gan Hashlosha (weather permitting). Travel down the fertile Jordan Valley for the ascent to Jerusalem. Say a blessing on the top of Mount Scopus as you overlook the city.

Wednesday Jerusalem - Old city
 

See the Tomb of King David on Mt. Zion. Walk along the ancient Roman Cardo. Visit the restored Jewish Quarter. Enjoy a fascinating tour of the underground Western Wall Tunnels. See the excavations of the Southern Wall of the Temple Mount. Stroll through the colourful Oriental Bazaars. Explore 3,000 years of history at Jerusalem's Citadel Museum.

Thursday Jerusalem - New City
 

See the coming of age Bar-Mitzvah ceremonies at the Western Wall. Enjoy a fascinating walk through the ultra-orthodox neighbourhood at Mea Shearim. Drive by the Knesset, Israel's parliament and see the famous Menorah with biblical emblems.  Visit the Shrine of the Book to see the original Dead Sea Scrolls. See the model of Jerusalem as it was during the time of King Herod. Experience a moving visit to Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial and Mount Herzl Military Cemetery. Visit the former Jordanian Army stronghold at Ammunition Hill.

Friday Dead Sea
 

Descend to the Dead Sea – the lowest place on Earth. Visit the ancient city of Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls where found.  Continue along the shores of the Dead Sea to the magnificent cliff top fortress of Masada. Ascend via cable car to explore the remains of King Herod's luxurious palace. Stop for a lunch and spa facilities at a private Dead Sea beach. Take the chance to enjoy a float on the salty waters of the Dead Sea (lunch included).

Saturday At leisure
 

Enjoy a day of leisure on your own exploring Jerusalem. Perhaps return to the Old City for some shopping.  Overnight: Jerusalem. (B)

   
Sunday Negev Desert
 

Travel south into the Negev desert; Visit Israel's Air Force Museum at Hatzerim to view the planes and equipment and to hear the story of this brave fighting force. Visit Sde Boker and see Ben Gurion's Hut and grave, overlooking the magnificent Zin valley. Stop at Mitzpeh Ramon to gaze into the Ramon Crater, an amazing geological wonder. Drive to Timna to see the copper mines of King Solomon and marvel at the huge multi-coloured rock formations.

Monday Free day (or full day Petra tour)
 

Enjoy a free day in Eilat today exploring the Red Sea coastal resort.

OR

Leave Eilat early in the morning, crossing the Arava border and drive through the scenic Jordanian desert.  Enjoy a spectacular tour exploring the rose-red city of Petra. Enjoy a short horse ride, and then travel on foot through the awesome 'SIQ' valley. Visit the Treasury, and explore hundreds of buildings, tombs, temples, and a 3,000-seat theatre from the first-century AD. Stop for lunch, followed by a visit to Moses Spring before leaving Wadi Moussa. Drive to Aqaba for a short city tour, returning to the Arava border and back to Eilat hotel.  Overnight: Eilat. Tuesday Bedouin experience
 

Visit the Eilat underwater observatory, built into a coral reef and one of the largest sea aquariums in the world. Drive trough Negev Desert for a camel riding experience and a visit to an authentic Bedouin tent; Learn about the Bedouin hospitality and enjoy a light lunch. Drive back to Tel-Aviv.  Overnight: Tel Aviv (B)

   
Wednesday Departure
 

Transfer to Ben Gurion airport for departure. (B)
