ITINERARY                

 
Day 1 - Friday

Istanbul


Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel.  Welcome briefing will be held.
   
Day 2 - Saturday
Istanbul
 

Spend the day exploring Istanbul, including a visit to the Topkapi Palace Museum - residence of the Ottoman Sultans between 1453-1852 (excluding the harem).  Visit the Hippodrome, tour the Blue Mosque famous for its blue ceramic tiles.  Last stop of the day is the Grand Bazaar.  (B)
Optional: dinner with belly dancing entertainment.

   
Day 3 - Sunday
Istanbul - Ankara
  Optional: Morning tour of St Sophia & Bosphorus Cruise (recommended)
Depart for the capital city of Ankara for overnight. (B, D)

   
Day 4 - Monday
Ankara - Cappadocia
  Visit the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, a historic caravanserai holding artifacts from up to 7500 years old including the most extensive collection of Hittite artifacts in the world.  Visit the Mausoleum of Ataturk, the father of modern Turkey.  Drive to Cappadocia, touring a 13th century caravanserai en route.  Pay a visit to the underground city of Saratli, one of the many underground settlements built for protection against religious persecution.  Dinner & overnight in Cappadocia. Optional: Whirling Dervishes performance.

   
Day 5 - Tuesday
Cappadocia
  Optional: Early morning hot air balloon tour.
After breakfast visit Goreme, an historical region of Turkey, located among the rock formations.  Many rock churches can still be seen today.  Continue to the town of Avanos renowned for its high quality earthenware.  Also visit Pasabag, Red Valley and attend a brief regional pottery workshop in a cave. (B, D)
   
Day 6 - Wednesday
Cappadocia - Pamukkale
 

Drive to Pamukkale with an enroute visit to the famous mausoleum of the Sufi philosopher - Meviana.  This was also the dervish lodge of the Mevlevi order (better known as the Whirling Dervishes).  Dinner and overnight in Pamukkale. (B, D)

   
Day 7 - Thursday
Pamukkale - Kusadasi
 

Today you will visit the unique cotton fortress of Pamukkale with its white lime cascades formed by mineral springs, followed by the ruins of the Roman health spa of Hierapolis.  Continue to Kusadasi for dinner & overnight. (B, D)

   
Day 8 - Friday
Ephesus & St. Mary's House - Kusadasi
  Today explore the wonders of the ruins of Ephesus, an important cultural centre.  Explore the 2000 year old marble streets, the theatre and Library of Celsius, gymnasium nd Hadrian's Temple.  Continue to see the stone cottage where it is believed the Virgin Mary spend her last years, before visiting a regional rug production centre to learn first hand about this art form.  (B, D)
Optional: afternoon tour of the village of Sirince.

   
Day 9 - Saturday
Pergamum - Troy - Canakkale

Experience the atmosphere of the ancient Medical Centre Asclepion in Pergamum before continuing to a traditional local village for lunch with locals.  Stop in Troy - famous for its wooden horse & Trojan War enroute to Canakkale for your overnight stay. (B, L, D)
   
Day 10 - Sunday
Dardanelles - Gallipoli - Istanbul
  Morning departure for Gallipoli, the site of many WW1 battles.  Visit Anzac Cove, Lone Pine Cemetery and Chunuk Bair before continuing to Istanbul.  Tonight is your Farewell Dinner. (B, L, D)
   
Day 11 - Monday
Istanbul departure
  Transfer to the airport for your flight. (B)
