Naxos Naxos is the biggest of the Greek Islands of the Cyclades , in the Aegean Sea. Naxos is located in front of Paros and near Mykonos. It is the nuptial isle of the god Dionysus and has the highest mountain of the group, Mount Zas. The island was for many centuries under the rule of the Venetians and Marko Sanudo.  Naxos Island is characterized by its venetian town, its many picturesque villages & fertile valleys, the sandy beaches, the marble gate called Portara, the Kouros and the naxian food and agricultural products.  Naxos is famous for its long sandy beaches - all these little paradises are really beautiful, with crystal turquoise waters and golden soft sand.
