The house itself is in the old centro storico just below the castle, with amazing views across the valley. It's a great base to look and learn with an enormous history.
Vineyards ring this medieval village - the blue of the olive trees, the rustic oaks for truffles and in season the floating white blossoms of the almonds. Time moves slowly in Vittorito a little village with an agricultural heart.
Watch the old boys tottle off too their vegetable gardens in their Ape's, small 3 wheel trucks, the love of their lives. But you have to be an early riser. Walk by the gardens and watch the big lumpy juicy tomatoes ripen and sample on the way.
Vittorito boasts the oldest vineyard in Abruzzo, with more than 200 years of wine production. Visits to the secret cellars including wine tasting can be arranged. During the summer Opera in the piazza and the Vittorito wine festival are well worth enjoying.
Close-by villages include Raiano the cherry capital of Abruzzo and Corfinio the old Roman capital of Italy with spectacular Roman ruins. During the summer there are many festivals throughout the valley. Bringing the past to life with Opera in the piazza, Crossbow competitions and Jousting.
For the foodies cherries, artichoke, red onion, saffron and garlic festivals.
With a modern twist you can enjoy Introdaqua Jazz festival and some very good modern music to dance the night away. Surrounded by three National parks, this is a walker's paradise. Sulmona a delightful old Roman city is just 20 minutes drive.
There are markets in the valley almost every day of the week, seasonal fresh vegetables, Porchetta (hot cooked pork) cheeses, salami, whatever takes your fancy.
