Day 1   Rome
    Upon arrival, check into your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.  Tonight, welcome dinner and introduction by your tour escort.  Overnight at your hotel. (D)
Day 3   Rome: Optional Vatical Museums ($)
    After breakfast you'll have a guided tour of Rome.  Classic sites include: Colosseum (from outside); Trevi Fountain; Castle of St. Angelo; and St Peter's Basilica (from outside).
In the afternoon the possibility of an optional Vatican tour (not included in tour cost)
Rest of the day at leisure.  Overnight in your hotel. (B)
Day 3   Rome - Pompeii - Sorrento (270 km)
    After breakfast depart to Pompeii for a guided afternoon tour of the archaeological excavations of this ancient Roman city, destroyed and buried by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD and re-discovered at the end of the 16th century.  Then proceed to Sorrento.  Dinner and overnight at your hotel. (B,D)
Day 4   Sorrento - Capri - Sorrento
    After breakfast, transfer to the harbour and cross to the Isle of Capri, famous since Roman times and a favourite vacation spot of the Emperor Tiberius.  Arrive at the port of Marina Grande and take the funicular up to La Piazzetta. Lunch is included and there's leisure time to explore.  Return to Sorrento.  Dinner and overnight at your hotel. (B,L,D)
Day 5   Sorrento & Optional Amalfi drive ($)
  Breakfast at the hotel.  Day at leisure to explore Sorrento at your own pace, or the option to take an optional tour to Amalfi (not included in tour cost).  Overnight in hotel. (B)
Day 6   Sorrento - Mt Cassino - Roman Countryside (280 km)

This morning leave Sorrento and drive towards the Roman countryside.  En route stop at the Abbey of Mt. Cassino renowned for the battle during WWII.  Proceed to the Cassino War Cemetery - the largest WWII cemetery in Italy.  The cemetery contains 4265 grave markers of soldiers who died in battles against the German army - mostly young Canadian, British,  Indian, Australian and New Zealand soldiers.  In the afternoon arrive in the Roman countryside.  Dinner and overnight. (B,D)

Day 7   Lakes and "Castelli Romani" Excursion
    Breakfast at the hotel.  These lovely small villages in the south of Rome - called Castelli - are an isolated group rising from the Roman countryside and have always been a wonderful holiday escape for both Romans and overseas visitors, due to the beautiful landscape, art works, local cuisine and wine.  You will visit Castelgandolfo, Grottaferrata, the village & lake of Nemi.  Lunch includes sampling some of the local wine, cheeses and meats.  Dinner and overnight. (B,L,D)
Day 8   Roman Countryside - Rome
    After breakfast, transfer to Rome downtown. End of services. (B)
