One of our Innovative Travel Team stayed here in April 2012 - here is what she had to say about the villa.......

@ 22 April 2012
Having just returned from 1 week stay at this Villa I can highly recommend it.
It is so central, and was an EXCELLENT base for day trips to the exciting destinations in and around Tuscany.  The town of Colle di Val d'Elsa itself has so much to offer, and it was intriguing to learn more about the famous "Via Francigena" which is the access road to the Podere Campinovi -  It is the old pilgrim road that ran from Rome to Jerusalem.  If we had time (and the weather was better) it would have been nice to do a day walk on this road.

A nice surprise was the "Welcome Dinner" laid on by the owners - a three course dinner accompanied by their own wine. The pizzas were all made by the owners mother-in-law, and were delicious.  My husband has an allergy to garlic and cheese (!!) but they catered for this no problem.  It was a chance to talk to your fellow travellers ~ we met some lovely people from Germany and Spain who all spoke English, so we could compare notes on where they had visited.

During our week at the Villa we made day trips to: The Chianti Valley, Volterra, San Gimignano., Lucca, Pisa and Sienna.  We also took a bus to Florence for the day just to have a break from driving.  What we saved on parking fees covered the bus fare - so a good deal.  However, you definitely need a car if you are staying here so you can go where you want, when you want.

We had a downstairs unit (one of the 4 that make up the villa) which consisted of two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a lounge/dining room/kitchen combination.  The villa was well equipped with everything we needed, including clothes rack for good weather and an outside table and chairs with a pergola.  While we were there we experienced some awful weather for a few days, and had to use the radiators to heat the house (and also dry our washing) which you pay extra for - but with the heating on all the rooms were lovely and cosy.

We were there in the spring (hence the odd weather) but the scenery was still very beautiful. We managed to wander round the huge grounds (escorted by one of the 3 farm cats).  The owners have updated the villa to a very high standard, including landscaping of the grounds round the villa and farmhouse where we had our beautiful welcome dinner.  There are tubs of flowers everywhere, and because of the Villa's situation at the top of a rise some beautiful views.  The Villa would be absolutely STUNNING in summer, and the pool and outside areas would come into their own.  You would definitely want to eat all your meals outside.

The town of Colle di Val d'Elsa had two good supermarkets where you can stock up on your arrival, and we became dab hands at making our "insalata" and pasta - using olive oil on everything.  The owners have their own olive trees and grape vines, and produce their own olive oil and wine.  Unfortunately it was the wrong time of year for us to sample their olive oil...but their wine is excellent.
