 Antigua

Antigua is located in the Eastern Caribbean and is the largest of the Leeward Islands.  The island has a complex coastline of safe harbours which over 200 years ago provided a perfect place to hide a fleet.   In 1784 Admiral Horatio Nelson sailed to Antigua and established Great Britain's most important Caribbean base.    The coral reefs, once the bane of marauding enemy ships now attract snorkellers and scuba divers from all over the world.  The local tourist office boasts that the island has 365 beaches, 'one for every day of the year'. Todays tourists are able to explore or just relax and soak up the sun on these secluded powdery soft beaches.    Little did Admiral Nelson know that the same characteristics that attracted the Royal Navy would transform Antigua into one of the Caribbean's premier tourist destinations.
