This 6 day tour affords the opportunities to visit the major Cathedrals of Cologne, Mainz, Worms, Speyer and Strasbourg on the Rhine - a mixture of Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque architecture.  Other highlights are the visit to the Frangrance Museum in Cologne and the Musée de l'Oeuvre Notre Dame, known for its Alsatian art and architecture.

Itinerary

Day 1   STRASBOURG

 

Passengers are welcome to board the ship at 6 pm in Strasbourg.  Settle into your cabin, followed by welcome cocktail and crew introduction and dinner on board.  Remain in port overnight,.

     
Day 2   STRASBOURG - SPEYER
 
Morning guided tour of Strasbourg and it's cathedral (transport not included).  Famous for its single spire and astronomical clock, the cathedral is widely considered among the finest examples of late Gothic architecture.  The famous west front is decorated with thousands of figures, and its spire measures over 466 feet.  The cathedral is built out of red sandstone from the nearby Vosges Mountains, giving it a pink hue. Also visit the Musée de l'oeuvre Notre-Dame, famous for its collection representing 7 centuries of sculptures, glass windows, architectural artifacts as well as building plans for the Strasbourg Cathedral and other great churches in the region.  Return on board for an afternoon cruising.  Arrive into Speyer during the evening.
     
Day 3   SPEYER - MANNHEIM - WORMS
   
Start the day with a guided tour on foot of Speyer and its cathedral.  A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the cathedral has maintained the overall form and dimensions of the original 11th century Romanesque structure.  It set the standard of many churches built in the Rhineland.  Return to the ship and continue cruising.  Join an excursion to Heidelberg (transport not included).  Dominated by its red sandstone castle perched above, the city is charming.  Return on board in Worms for dinner and dancing.
     
Day 4   WORMS - MAINZ
   
Morning guided tour on foot of Speyer and its cathedral - one of the finest examples of High Romanesque architecture in Germany.  it's highly distinctive appearance from the outside contrasts with its simple/modest interior.  Return to the ship and cruise towards Mainz.  On arrival depart on a walking tour to Mainz Cathedral and its museum.  The three-nave cathedral is predominantly Romanesque, but later additions over many centuries have led to the interesting architectural combinations that exist today.  Return to the ship and continue to Cologne through the night.
     
Day 5   MAINZ - COLOGNE
 
After a morning cruising depart in the afternoon for a guided walking tour of Cologne and its magnificent Gothic UNESCO World Heritage listed Cathedral.  Follow on with a visit to the Fragrance Museum Farina-House - the birthplace of Eau de Cologne.  The museum also houses a collection of art objects, paintings and furniture reflecting the Farina perfume dynasty - starting with the Rococo era.  Return on board for your final night gala dinner evening.
     
Day 6
  COLOGNE
    One last breakfast on board before disembarking in Cologne at 9 am.
