DAY 4

Today there is a full day excursion beginning with a visit to the British War Cemetery at Tyne Cot, and continuing to the Passchendaele Museum in Zonnebeke Castle for an overview of the battle of 1917.  An underground path gives an idea of what a British soldier experienced.  After a cheese tasting and lunch at a local restaurant the tour continues to Ypres for a 3 km walking tour of the ramparts, followed by a visit to the Flanders Fields Museum where you will learn more of the history of WWI in the region.  After a stop at Hill 40 (an Australian Memorial) attend a "Last Post" before re-joining the boat.  A fitting and final farewell to the dead.

This morning visit Poperingen (one of the only towns not occupied) before continuing to the military cemetery and hospital at Lijssenthoek.  The visitor centre explains the history and importance of this site.  An afternoon at leisure is followed by crew entertainment and dinner on board.

Today a morning tour of Arras, with its rich history and architectural heritage, before visiting Wellington Quarry – used during the build-up of troops for the Allied offensive.  Descend 20 m in a glass lift to learn about the memorial to the 1917 Battle of Arras.  After an afternoon cruising enjoy a Gala Evening on board.
