Itinerary

Day 1

STRASBOURG

Arrive on board and check-in at 11 am in Strasbourg (at the river port on the rue du Havre). After settling in to our cabins, we have lunch on board before setting off by coach in the company of our guide on a visit of Strasbourg's Old Town. The entire town is festooned with garlands and Christmas decorations, most notably, the shops and streets. We visit the Christmas Markets, located on the Place Broglie and on the square in front of the Cathedral. Towards the end of the afternoon, the Christmas Lights are switched on in the town – including those on Cathedral Square, the Place Kléber, the Carré d'Or district and the Place Gutenberg.  We return on board to prepare for dinner. We are introduced to the crew over a welcome cocktail. Dinner is on board this evening as we set off on our cruise.

Day 2

MAINZ - NUREMBERG - MAINZ

We have buffet breakfast on board this morning, arriving in Mainz around 8 am. We set off from Mainz by coach and head for Nuremberg, where we arrive towards the end of the morning. The second largest town in Bavaria, Nuremberg, the "Christmas City", is decorated in all its finest festive regalia. We have lunch in Nuremberg before our guide accompanies us on our visit of the famous Nuremberg Christmas Market, the Christkindlesmarkt, one of the finest Christmas Markets in Europe and without a doubt the largest in the world. Situated in the heart of the old town, the Franconian German Christmas Market has a hugely inviting medieval ambiance, filled with the evocative aromas of gingerbread, mulled wine and grilled sausages. Here, it is easy to get caught up in this truly unique atmosphere. We leave Nuremberg around 4 pm, returning to Mainz and our floating hotel by coach. We arrive in time for dinner on board and moor for the night.

Day 3

MAINZ - RUDESHEIM (The Romantic Rhine)

We set sail early this morning, heading for Rüdesheim, having buffet breakfast as we cruise. We arrive in the pretty little village of Rüdesheim in the valley of the Romantic Rhine around 10.30 am. Here we have free time to visit the Christmas Market of Nations, where more than 120 chalets from twelve countries display their crafts and wares, their specialities and traditions in one of the most attractive Christmas settings. Rüdesheim Christmas Market is held in the historic heart of the town and in the famous Drosselgasse. Visitors to Rüdesheim can also admire one of Europe's largest Nativity scenes, quite unique for its genre, with life-size figures. The Nativity scene can be found on the Place du Marché. We return on board around 1 pm for lunch and continue our cruise through the valley of the Romantic Rhine until we reach the famous Lorelei Rock. The course of the river meanders and winds through spectacular scenery, dominated by dramatic ruins, sloping banks covered in vines and majestic fortresses and castles. We begin our journey back to Strasbourg. Pre-dinner games are organised on board. Tonight we have our Gala Dinner on board, followed by an evening of music and dancing. We continue our cruise to Strasbourg through the night.
