Have breakfast on board and a relaxing morning afloat as the cruise takes you along the majority of the course of this great river on a quite remarkable journey. The scenery is such that the cruise is quite unlike any other. We also have lunch as we cruise, arriving around 2 pm in Avignon. From here, set off on a guided tour of the Papal City, a veritable citadel overlooking the bridge, set high on a rocky outcrop and surrounded by city walls. The Palace is a major feat of Gothic architecture dating from the 14th century and the formal residence of the sovereign pontiffs. Return on board for an evening of entertainment. Set sail for Arles during the evening, where the boat moor for the night.

Day 3   ARLES - PORT SAINT LOUIS - MARTIGUES

After buffet breakfast on board, set off around 8 am on an excursion to the Camargue, this huge nature reserve where the sea and marshland are inhabited by an amazing array of water fowl and birds. We have free time in the delightful town of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, a remarkable twice-yearly pilgrimage centre for gypsies from all over Europe, with an interesting fortified church. Return on board in Port Saint Louis and continue our cruise. Have lunch on board and an afternoon spent afloat, gently cruising to Martigues, arriving late afternoon. Enjoy some free time for independent exploration before we set sail again and head for Avignon. Dinner on board as the boat continues to cruise through the night.

Day 4   AVIGNON - VIVIERS - THE ARDECHE GORGES

today wake up in Avignon.  After breakfast join an  excursion to les Baux de Provence, undoubtedly one of the prettiest villages in France. It is located in the heart of the Alpilles mountains on a rocky outcrop with exceptional, breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside – Arles, the Camargue and the Alpilles mountains. The huge ruined castle, which overlooks the plains to the south, is one of the must-visit sites in all of Provence. Return to the boat for lunch and set sail again to Roquemaure. Departure on a coach excursion to visit the Ardèche gorges and to discover the Pont d'Arc Cavern, a replica of Chauvet Cave (only on compulsory pre-reservation before the departure - with your agency). Back on board in Saint-Etienne-des-Sorts. Departure of the boat for Viviers. Dinner on board. Overnight stopover.

Day 5   VIVIERS - TAIN L'HERMITAGE (THE VERCORS)

An early start to the cruise this morning, as the boat departs Viviers and heads for La Voulte. Spend the morning afloat, enjoying a buffet breakfast, and later on lunch. Arrive in La Voulte shortly after lunch and depart on an excursion to the Vercors. Set off by coach for Loriol, Die where we visit a cellar and have tastings of the famous Clairette de Die sparkling wine. Afterwards drive along the Col du Rousset mountain road, known for its spectacular panoramic views over the Vercors plateau. Continue the journey to Vassieux-en-Vercors, La Chapelle en Vercors and Pont-en-Royans, famous for its "hanging houses". Next head for Tain l'Hermitage and rejoin our floating hotel in time to prepare for our Gala Dinner and evening of entertainment.
