Itinerary

Day 1  

BASEL

   

Passengers are welcome to board our ship at 6 pm in Basel. After comfortably settling into your cabins, we'll introduce our crew at a welcome cocktail. Now it will be time to sit back, relax and begin to enjoy the scenery and the services of our friendly and service-oriented staff. We'll have dinner on board and we'll remain in port overnight.

     
Day 2   BASEL - SCHAFFHAUSEN - LAKE CONSTANCE - MAINAU - BASEL
   

After breakfast on board join an excursion to the Rhine Falls and Lake Constance (including the entrance fee, lunch on Mainau Island and transport by coach). The Rhine Falls are among the most spectacular sites to visit in Switzerland.  During the tour you will discover the Laufen Castle, and its impressive view overlooking the falls.  Continue to Lake Constance, and arrive in time for lunch on Mainau Island. There's so much to admire and discover on Mainau - explore the park, gardens, nature and botany using all your senses. You'll soon see why it has become one of the most famous tourist spots in Germany. Return by coach to the ship in Basel for dinner on board and departure for Breisach.

     
Day 3   BREISACH - TITISEE - THE BLACK FOREST - BREISACH
   

Following breakfast depart on a trip to The Black Forest and Titisee, and a visit to the open air museum in Gutach. Located in the heart of the Black Forest, this museum carries out research projects and explores the cultural heritage and development of all rural areas in the Black Forest region. Culture and history will come to life as you discover how people have lived and worked in Black Forest farmhouses over the last 400 years. We'll enjoy lunch on the road.
After lunch on the road continue to Titisee. Located against a lovely, romantic backdrop, Lake Titisee's crystal-clear water attracts thousands of tourists and water sport fans every year. Why not take a boat ride to discover this magical place that has still preserved its incomparable charm?  Return to our ship in Breisach late afternoon for dinner on board, followed by an evening of entertainment. The boat will remain in port overnight.

     
Day 4   BREISACH - STRASBOURG
   

Take breakfast and lunch on board while continuing to cruise on the Rhine River to Strasbourg.  This afternoon join the tour of the European capital city of Strasbourg, through several different neighbourhoods in the city: the German quarter located around the famous Place de la République and the European quarter's Palace of Europe, European Court of Humans Rights, and the European Parliament.  Continue to the Cathedral, where you'll also be able to see the legendary Kammerzell House, followed by the Petite France quarter, listed as UNESCO World Heritage site since 1988. Return to the ship in late afternoon for dinner and an evening of dancing and entertainment. Curing the night the ship will depart for toward Mainz.

     
Day 5   MAINZ - KOBLENZ

 

After breakfast on board the ship arrives in Mainz where you will join a guided tour of the city and a visit the Gutenberg Museum (closed on Mondays). Mainz was founded more than 2,000 years ago by the Romans and is currently the capital of the Rhineland-Palatinate. In the 17th and 18th centuries, top architects and sculptors enhanced the basic shape of the town with fine palaces and churches. Enjoy the chance to admire the magnificent, historical houses which have been outstandingly well-restored, before continuing to the Gutenberg Museum. This world-famous museum of book printing houses two copies of the Gutenberg Bible, the first major book printed with movable type in the West.  Return to the ship for lunch and continue cruising toward Koblenz. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002, the legendary and romantic Rhine River is bestowed with truly magnificent landscapes. At each and every turn of the river, you'll marvel at the castles and medieval villages set amidst the renowned vineyards.  The cruise will pass the legendary Lorelei rock, named after a beautiful young maiden who, according to German legend, threw herself into the river in despair over a faithless lover and was transformed into a siren. Dine on board enroute to Koblenz which is situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle Rivers.  Koblenz was founded over 2,000 years ago and offers visitors a rich collection of cultural monuments and historic buildings. After dinner, set off on your own or join our host/hostess for a tour of the city.

     
Day 6   KOBLENZ - COLOGNE - DUSSELDORF

 

After a leisurely breakfast on board enjoy cruising up the magnificent Rhine Valley enroute to Cologne.  The Rhine River follows a remarkable route, meandering between sheer rocks, past small islands and fortified castles sitting high above the vineyards.  After lunch on board join a guided tour of Cologne on foot.  At the crossroads of Europe since the Middle Ages, Cologne has kept its importance as a vibrant commercial and industrial city, as well as a cultural and religious centre.  Take the opportunity to admire the exterior facades of the magnificent Gothic Cologne Cathedral, which took over 500 years to complete. The twelve Romanesque churches of Cologne in the old city are also among the most famous local attractions. Continue the visit of the old town with a stop to admire the outside of the famous Eau de Cologne neo-Gothic building.  Enjoy some free time here before returning by coach to Dusseldorf to re-join the ship for diner.   The ship will remain in port overnight.

     
Day 7
  DUSSELDORF - XANTEN - AMSTERDAM
   

Breakfast on board before leaving by coach on a tour of Aachen. The tour starts with a visit to the old town, its narrow alleys and historic squares exposing its 2,000 year-old history.  The tour continues with a visit to the Cathedral of Aachen, one of the most famous examples of western architecture. It was Charlemagne's final resting place, and more than 30 German kings were crowned here. In 1978, it was the first German building to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. You'll also see the Cathedral's Treasury, thought to be the most important ecclesiastical treasury north of the Alps. It houses sacral art treasures from the Byzantine, Carolingian, and Hohenstaufen Empires. The Cross of Lothair and the Bust of Charlemagne are part of this unique visit. After the tour enjoy some free time to sightsee on your own before heading back to the boat in Xanten.  After lunch the cruise will continue to Amsterdam, crossing the border into Germany near Emmerich, before passing Arhem and entering Holland.  Following dinner and an evening of on board activities the ship will arrive in Amsterdam and moor for the night.

     
Day 8
  AMSTERDAM
   

After breakfast on board join the guided visit of Amsterdam. The Dutch capital is a truly delightful city with a rich and fascinating past. It is also known as the "Venice of the North" thanks to its network of canals.  The tour will afford you the opportunity to learn a little about the true character of the town ~ an eclectic and pleasurable mix of historical and modern architecture and lifestyles.  After lunch on board you will have some free time to explore on your own or join the excursion to Haarlem. Dutch Haarlem dates back to Gothic times and this is reflected in its architecture and cobbled streets. It also offers a lively cultural scene, excellent shopping and fine dining opportunities. Return to the ship in the late afternoon for dinner and an evening of dancing and entertainment.   The ship will remain in port overnight.

     
Day 9
  AMSTERDAM
   

After one last breakfast on board disembarkation will commence at 9 am

Please note Croisi cruises are bilingual with on board commentaries in both French & English. Sightseeing tours are guaranteed in English with either bilingual guides or audiphones.
