Itinerary

Day 1

AMSTERDAM

 

Passengers are welcome to board our ship at 6 pm in Amsterdam.  After settling into your cabins, you will meet the crew at a welcome cocktail. Sit back, relax and begin to enjoy the scenery and the services of the friendly and service-oriented staff.   Dinner on board is followed by an overnight in port.

   
Day 2 AMSTERDAM
 

Today breakfast is followed by a guided visit of Amsterdam. The Dutch capital is a truly delightful city with a rich and fascinating past. It is also known as the "Venice of the North" thanks to its network of canals, and we'll have the opportunity to learn a little about the true character of the town - an eclectic and pleasurable mix of historical and modern architecture and lifestyles. Return on board for lunch. This afternoon, spend some time exploring on your own or join an excursion to Haarlem. Dutch Haarlem dates back to Gothic times and this is reflected in its architecture and cobbled streets. It also offers a lively cultural scene, excellent shopping and fine dining opportunities. Return to our ship late afternoon for dinner and an evening of dancing and entertainment. Our ship will depart for Xanten, cruising overnight.

   
Day 3 XANTEN - AACHEN - DUSSELDORF
 

This morning you will breakfast on board while cruising past the cities of Nijmegen and Arhem.  Next enter the Rhine River basin and cross the border into Germany near Emmerich.  Over lunch there will be more sites to view before arriving in Xanten in the early afternoon, with a side trip to Aachen.  The trip will begin with a visit in the old town, its narrow alleys and historic squares exposing its 2,000 year-old history, and continue with a visit to the Cathedral of Aachen, one of the most famous examples of western architecture. It was Charlemagne's final resting place and more than 30 German kings were crowned here. In 1978, it was the first German building to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. You'll also see the Cathedral's Treasury, thought to be the most important ecclesiastical treasury north of the Alps. It houses sacral art treasures from the Byzantine, Carolingian, and Hohenstaufen Empires. The Cross of Lothair and the Bust of Charlemagne are part of this unique visit. After our visit, you'll have some free time to sightsee on your own before heading back to the boat in Dusseldorf for dinner & on board activities.

   
Day 4 DUSSELDORF - COLOGNE - KÖNIGSWINTER - KOBLENZ
 

Our ship will depart during the night for Cologne, arriving early morning. After a leisurely breakfast depart on a guided tour on foot of Cologne. At the crossroads of Europe since the Middle Ages, Cologne has kept its importance as a vibrant commercial and industrial city, as well as a cultural and religious centre. During the tour you will view the exterior facades of the magnificent Gothic Cologne Cathedral, which took over 500 years to complete.  The twelve Romanesque churches of Cologne in the old city are also among the most famous local attractions. Continue to admire the outside of the famous Eau de Cologne neo-Gothic building.  After some free time on your own the coach will return to Königswinter to re-join the ship for lunch. This afternoon, cruise the Rhine toward Koblenz, arriving early evening. After dinner on board you will have free time tonight to stroll through town to see the famous Deutsches Eck.  The ship will remain in port overnight.

   
Day 5 KOBLENZ - MAINZ - WORMS
 

The ship will leave early morning to cruise toward Mainz giving you the chance to vie this magnificent wine-growing region over breakfast. Throughout this part of the cruise, you will see numerous castles nestled among the famous vineyards, and the legendary Lorelei rock. You can continue to take in the sites over lunch, arriving in Mainz during the afternoon. Once in port, you can join a tour of the city and a visit the Gutenberg Museum (closed on Mondays). Mainz was founded more than 2,000 years ago by the Romans and is currently the capital of the Rhineland-Palatinate. In the 17th and 18th centuries, top architects and sculptors enhanced the basic shape of the town with fine palaces and churches. You will have the chance to admire the magnificent, historical houses which have been outstandingly well-restored, before continuing to the Gutenberg Museum. This world-famous museum of book printing houses two copies of the Gutenberg Bible, the first major book printed with movable type in the West. During the visit, the boat will cruise to Worms, where you will re-join it at the end of the day. Dinner is followed by an evening of dancing on board. During the night, the ship will continue cruising to Strasbourg.

   
Day 6 STRASBOURG - BREISACH

Today take breakfast while continuing to cruise on the Rhine River, admiring the magnificent wine-growing region. The ship will arrive in Strasbourg early morning when you can join a tour of Strasbourg, the European capital. Begin the tour through several different neighbourhoods in the city: the German quarter located around the famous Place de la République and the European quarter's Palace of Europe, European Court of Humans Rights, and the European Parliament. Continue to the Cathedral, where you'll also be able to see the legendary Kammerzell House, followed by the Petite France quarter, listed as UNESCO World Heritage site since 1988. After lunch on board you will cruise toward Breisach through the magnificent wine-producing region.  Today dinner on board will be followed by an evening of entertainment. The ship will arrive in Breisach during the night.

   
Day 7
BREISACH - TITISEE - THE BLACK FOREST - BREISACH - BASEL
 

After buffet breakfast, depart on a trip to The Black Forest and Titisee.  On the tour you will visit the open air museum in Gutach. Located in the heart of the Black Forest, this museum carries out research projects and explores the cultural heritage and development of all rural areas in the Black Forest region. Culture and history will come to life as you discover how people have lived and worked in Black Forest farmhouses over the last 400 years.  After lunch on the road you will continue on to Titisee in the afternoon. Located against a lovely, romantic backdrop, Lake Titisee's crystal-clear water attracts thousands of tourists and water sport fans every year. Why not take a boat ride to discover this magical place that has still preserved its incomparable charm? Late afternoon you will return to the ship in Breisach for dinner and on-board entertainment, and departure for Basel.

   
Day 8
BASEL - SCHAFFHAUSEN - LAKE CONSTANCE - MAINAU - BASEL
 

Today you have the chance to join an excursion to the Rhine Falls and Lake Constance (our day includes the entrance fee, lunch on Mainau Island and transport by coach). The Rhine Falls are among the most spectacular sites to visit in Switzerland. You'll also discover the Laufen Castle, and its impressive view overlooking the falls. Continue on to Lake Constance, and arrive in time for lunch on Mainau Island. There's so much to admire and discover on Mainau: explore the park and gardens, nature and botany using all your senses. You'll soon see why it has become one of the most famous tourist spots in Germany.   After returning to the ship in Basel by coach you have time to prepare for a gala dinner followed by an evening of dancing. The ship will remain in port overnight.

   
Day 9
BASEL
 

After one last breakfast on board disembarkation will commence at 9 am

Please note Croisi cruises are bilingual with on board commentaries in both French & English. Sightseeing tours are guaranteed in English with either bilingual guides or audiphones.
