  The beautiful Peradeniya Botanical Gardens are located 6 km from Kandy.  It was built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala King and expanded by the British.  Covering 147 acres it is a strollers paradise with pavilions, conservatory, fernery, giant lavan fig tree, orchid house (with over 1000 plants) and numerous flower beds.
