  Day 1

Chennai - Mahabalipuram
Welcome to India. On arrival in Chennai, transfer to your hotel in Mahabalipuram.

  Day 2  


Sightseeing tour of Mahabalipuram and its many carved monuments. With its many temples built between the 7th and the 9th centuries, the city is a true open air museum and is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (B)

  Day 3

Mahabalipuram – Pondicherry (100 km)
This morning visit the community of Auroville. Later, drive to Pondicherry, a surprising town reminiscent of colonial times when it was a French enclave. (B)

  Day 4

Pondicherry – Tanjore (220 km)
Drive to Tanjore, a bustling market town in one of the main rice-growing regions of Tamil Nadu, Tanjore was once the capital of the Chola Empire. En route, visit the stunning Dharasuram Temple. (B)

  Day 5

Tanjore – Madurai (165 km)
Explore Tanjore and the Brihadisvara Temple.  This magnificent temple, over 1000 years old, evokes the power of the Chola kings as it towers over the town. Later, drive to Madurai and wander through its busy streets full of pilgrims, sacred cows, open-air kitchens and colourful bazaars. (B)

  Day 6

Sightseeing tour of Madurai by bicycle rickshaw. Visit the flower, fruit & spice market, Thirumalai Nayak Palace, and the Gandhi Museum. (B)

  Day 7

Madurai – Periyar (165 km)
Drive to the breathtakingly beautiful wildlife sanctuary of Periyar where you will take a guided plantation tour to learn about spices and aromatic plants.

  Day 8

Periyar – Kumarakom (200 km)
Morning optional river safari on Lake Periyar.  Try to spot elephant, deer, wild boar, mongoose and birds. Later depart for Kumarakom, a cluster of tiny islands surrounded by a labyrinth of tropical waterways. (B)

  Day 9 

Spend the day at leisure to relax and unwind in your beautiful resort. You may also chose to go for a short canoe trip along the magical waterways. (B)

  Day 10

Kumarakom – Cochin (90 km)
Drive to Cochin, a charming town reflecting a blend of Dutch, Portuguese and British architectures. See the old districts and visit St Francis Church and the highly decorated Santa Cruz Basilica. Linger in the colourful spice markets and see the much-photographed Chinese nets that line the shore of Fort Cochin. (B)
Tonight, attend an optional  Kathakali performance followed by dinner.

Departure transfer to the airport for your onward flight (B)
