The Ancient Kingdom of China is a land of great contrast, torn between modernity and tradition; a land that has enchanted the imaginations of visitors for centuries. This fabulous itinerary combines private touring with a Yangtze River cruise. Starting off in Beijing, you will then visit Xi'an and its Terracotta Army before heading to Chongqing, gateway to the Yangtze. From there, embark on a scenic cruise culminating at the monumental Three Gorges Dam and conclude your tour in Shanghai, China's most dynamic and futuristic city.

Day 1
  Beijing Arrival
    Welcome to China. Meet and greet at the airport and transfer to your hotel, followed by a welcome dinner in the evening. (D)
Day 2
    Start your exploration of Beijing, the spiritual and political heart of China. Visit Tiananmen Square, the world's largest urban square and the heart of the city.  Continue to the famous Forbidden City. For 500 years this imposing cluster of over 1000 ancient and well preserved buildings was off-limits to everyone except the emperor, his family and concubines. After lunch visit the Temple of Heaven and the Royal Gardens. (B,L)

Day 3


This morning explore the Great Wall of China, a fascinating reminder of what enormous power the
emperors once held, and the constant threat of invasion they felt. After lunch return to Beijing and
visit the ancient backstreets and courtyards of the traditional Hutong district. (B,L)

Day 4
  Beijing – Xi'an
    Morning at leisure to further explore Beijing on your own or to relax at your hotel. After lunch you will be transferred to the railway station for a fast train to Xi'an.  Arrive in the evening to be met and transferred to your hotel. (B,L)
Day 5
    Today visit the Mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi, famous for its Terracotta Army. Marvel at the richness of this gigantic archaeological site containing more than a thousand life-size warriors, horses and imperial court personnel. Continue to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the city wall and the exceptional Shaanxi History Museum. Tonight, evening show at the Tang Dynasty Theatre. (B,L)

Day 6
  Xi'an – Chongqing 

Morning at leisure. In the afternoon transfer to the airport and fly to Chongqing.  On arrival you will be transferred to Chongqing Port where you will board your Yangtze River cruise ship - your home for the next three nights. (B,L,D)

Day 7 - 8
  Yangtze River Cruise (Chongqing to Yichang)
    Relax and take in the beautiful scenery as you cruise the mighty Yangtze River. This dramatic river journey has been described as one of the most spectacular in the world and will be one of the highlights of your holiday.  Admire the spectacular beauty of the Three Gorges of Qutang, Wu and Xiling. Continue to the Three Gorges Dam, the world's longest dam and largest hydroelectric power station. (B,L,D)

Day 9
  Yichang – Shanghai
    Disembark your cruise ship this morning and fly to Shanghai. Rest of the day at leisure. (B,L)
Day 10
    Today is dedicated to the discovery of Shanghai. Walk through the charming French Concession area, stop by the iconic Bund waterfront, visit the History Museum and view the bustling Nanjing Road and the famous Oriental Pearl Tower. (B,L)
Day 11
  Shanghai departure
    Transfer to the airport for your onward flight. (B)
