Day 1
  Phnom Penh


  Welcome to Cambodia.  Meet, assist and transfer to your hotel.  Set out for a first tour of Phnom Penh.  Visit Wat Phnom Temple, namesake and symbol of the capital city.  Overnight in Phnom Penh.
              
 
Day 2
  Phnom Penh
    Morning visit to the National Museum, a superb example of Khmer architecture which hosts a superb collection of sculptures emanating from all different periods of Cambodian history.  Continue to the striking Silver Pagoda and the Royal Palace, home to many treasures including a solid gold Buddha encrusted with 9,584 diamonds.  This afternoon, explore Phnom Penh off-the-beaten-track: visit the Old Post Office, a hidden Chinese Temple and one of the most renowned temples of the capital - Wat Langka.  Continue to the French Institute which promotes arts and education and later join the unique and busy atmosphere of Phnom Penh's riverside promenade. Day 3
  Phnom Penh - Kompong Thom

  Morning departure for Kompong Thom.  On the way pass a number of villages and visit the pre-Angkorian temples of Sambor Prei Kuk, dating back to the 7th century and which may have served as an inspiration for the architects of Angkor five centuries later.                                                                       
   
Day 4
  Kompong Thom - Siem Reap



  Today visit Kompong Kleang on Tonle Sap Lake.  Here all the houses sit on 10 metre high stilts in an exceptional natural environment offering breathtaking views of floodplains, rice fields and water views as far as the eye can see. Walk through the village meeting the locals and a local crocodile breeding family.  After a picnic lunch in a villager's home continue to Siem Reap. (B, L)

 
Day 5
  Siem Reap & Angkor Temples

  This morning visit the incredible temple of Angkor Wat.  Built in the 12th century in honour of Vishnu, this is one of the most amazing man-made monuments with its soaring towers and extraordinary bas reliefs.  Continue to a traditional wooden house and savour a Khmer lunch prepared by a local family.  In the afternoon explore Banteay Srei: erected in the 10th century, this small pink sandstone temple is also known as the Citadel of Women and is famous for its beautiful and intricate sculptures. Day 6
  Siem Reap & Angkor Temples


In the morning explore Angkor Thom and the famous Bayon, composed of 54 gigantic towers featuring 216 smiling faces of Avalokitasvara.  Continue with a visit to the Elephant and Leper King Terraces and the Ta Prohm Temple (featured in the movie Tomb Raider) - walking among the overgrown trees and gigantic roots that have become part of it through the passage of time over centuries. Day 7
  Siem Reap & Angkor Temples

  Morning at leisure to relax or explore further at your own pace.  In the afternoon discover one of the most ancient sites of the region - the Roluos Group of Temples dating back to the 9th century.  View the impressive Bakong Temple, Preah Ko and Lolei Temple which now houses a small monastery. (B)
     
Day 8
  Siem Reap departure

  After breakfast transfer to the airport for your departure flight. (B)
